Jute rope
Jute rope, 8m
from € 20.00 incl. 21% VAT
Ogawa jute, imported from Japan and finished by hand in Leuven. 6mm, 8m long, natural. The traditional rope of Japanese kinbaku: warm in colour, fragrant in a way only natural fibre is, with the tooth and feel the tradition is built around. Pleasant to tie with from the first wrap.
Each piece is washed to cut the traditional batching oil and its smell, then conditioned by hand: loose fibres removed, fibres softened, ends finished. The rope ships unoiled. You can either oil it yourself when you’d like (camellia or jojoba are the usual choices) or let it pick up oils from your hands and skin over time.
Natural rope wants more care than synthetic does. It soaks up sweat and other fluids, will not survive a washing machine, and will eventually retire from active use. Many riggers use jute for suspension and we do too, but natural fibre cannot be load-tested the way synthetic can. Suspension on jute is always at your own risk and judgement. If you want a known working load, look at our POSH.
